2008 ACCOLADES

BACH to BACCHUS; A lovely write up from the gentlemen behind the wine blog Bach to Bacchus.

On 2010 Albion: "A nice light nose, with melon and some grapefruit on the palate, this strokes the mid palate like ambrosia from heaven. The balance, structure and complexity are truly amazing! This is the one of the finest Sauvignon Blancs I’ve ever tasted. Marston sourced some great fruit and then worked miracles to produce one of the nicest white wines I have ever had. I really love it!!!"

On 2008 Marston Family Vineyard Cabernet: "This wine has a complexity, style and finesse that place it among the finest Cabs in Napa Valley."

On visiting Marston Family Vineyard: "Marston provides an excellent tasting experience and Elizabeth is enthusiastic, devoted and delightfully interesting... It is an enchanting place where the love of wine and the devotion and enthusiasm of the Marston family are readily evident."

Napa Valley Life Magazine, November 2011 issue featured Elizabeth Marston and NG: The Next Generation in Wine on the cover!

"Elizabeth Marston always knew she would return to her family’s vineyards on Spring Mountain. As one of the founding member of NG, Marston arrived back in St. Helena via a career in publishing, years in London and a serious passionate study for classic literature. Now she is the sole full-time employee at Marston Family Vineyard, wearing many hats from production to marketing. She says that “learning the importance of relationships in all aspects of business and how to properly multitask” are some of the key ingredients that make her successful today, and were learned in her prior career. As Vice President of Spring Mountain AVA, Marston shares that being part of NG “is reminiscent of past generations where there was commodore in sharing tractors or referring vendors, and it’s nice that that isn’t lost. That’s very special.”

The Wine Spectator just named 2008 Marston Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon one of the "Outstanding Cabernets of 2008"!

MARSTON Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District 2008 Score: 92 | $100
Complex and supple, with layers of smooth plum, blackberry, mineral, sage and cedar. Full-bodied, big but not overdone, this is pleasingly graceful and balanced on the finish. Drink now through 2022. —James Laube

"Napa Valley is known as a terrific area to grow Cabernet Sauvignon, with climate, soils and a long growing season suited to growing terrific grapes. But on closer examination, Napa is made up of a patchwork of smaller regions and microclimates, divided among 15 subappellations, each with unique characteristics. This week, we’re looking at Napa Cabernets from seven of these regions.

These subregions fall into two distinct groups: those that are along the valley floor and those that are in the mountains that surround the valley. Both of the mountain regions represented here—Spring Mountain and Mount Veeder—are on the western side of the valley. With higher elevations, cooler climates and less fertile soils, they are known for wines with higher acidity and firmer structure."  - By MaryAnn Worobeic, posted August 2011
